2.11.20 - Experimenting with Scale

I thought my previous watercolour drawings turned out really well, so today I made larger versions to test the effects of different scales. For this one, I drew out a curvy flowing shape on A3 to fill with drawings as a reference to the spillage idea, and it gives a sense of movement and gravity that reminds me of the rabbit hole scene in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with the falling objects and furniture.

I limited the colour palette slightly more this time and I think this helps it look more continuous and less like random little drawings. I used the same process of sketching in pencil, filling in with watercolour and drawing over with fine-liner. The size of the piece is not extremely different to my first one so I decided to go much bigger for the next version.
The paper wasn't made for watercolours so I don't really like how the paintings look because you can see the brush strokes and it looks quite uneven, but I decided to carry on and draw over with pen, this time using a thicker mark to fit the enlarged scale.

I cut the drawings out and stuck them around my studio space to play with arranging the shapes in different ways and make the art feel more like an installation. I think it looks fun and childish and I enjoy looking at it, but my concern would be whether the paintings display enough skill.
