 Tony Cragg is an artist I have looked to in this project who works with ready-mades and ordinary objects to create powerful sculptural pieces. I think it's important to see how other practitioners approach this idea as it helps me imagine how my cartons might come together in their final form and give me confidence that I can make something really interesting like Cragg's. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE - Arts Development Agencies

'Air Arts  is a wide ranging and ambitious arts in health programme, designed in partnership with staff and patients at Derby Teaching Hospitals. The programme aims to distract from illness, improve wellbeing, aid recovery and enhance the hospital experience for 9,000 staff and 2 million patients and visitors every year.' https://www.airarts.uk/ On the Air Arts website, there are 3D virtual exhibitions that you can explore as if you were truly there - it was really interesting to look through and it completely transforms the atmosphere of the hospital space. It creates a sense of community and togetherness that I imagine helps patients feel that they aren't alone and there are people out there who care and want to support them. This is something I can definitely see myself doing in the future, I think it's a really great cause because everyone deserves to have access to art and it reaches a huge number of people every year. CRITICAL STUDIES - The Ordinary

 Working with the idea of the ordinary in art can be a way of documenting some of the most overlooked every day moments, or subverting expectations of normality through elevating the status of mundane objects and scenarios. David Mach is known for his large scale sculptural works using old magazines, objects and furniture. This piece of work is quite an extreme example of the use of multiples, with thousands of magazines stacked in a huge wavy mass with chunky items of furniture embedded in it. A magazine alone is something we are used to seeing in the domestic space as well as public areas like waiting rooms and cafes, they are such a normal part of that environment that we hardly even notice them, so to see thousands in a sculptural form questions what we consider to be worthy of making art about and what we expect to see in a gallery.
