7.10.21 - Clay Test Tiles

Today I went to the ceramics room to make some test samples. Since I want to make multiples of my clay buildings, I thought it would be best to use the professional materials that are available at college, instead of the air-dry clay which I used at home for my prototype piece. I rolled out some stoneware clay and made lots of imprinted patterns in the surface before cutting it into lots of little hexagons. After they have been fired I will be able to test out different glazes to see which colours and effects work best for my idea. This is quite important because I will be imprinting words and window patterns into the buildings, so when my test tiles are done I will be looking at how the patterns appear through the glaze in order to inform my next decisions. I also made some tiles with white clay to compare them to; next I could try terracotta and grog.
